Have you always been curious about sew-in extensions? Whether you’re considering getting them for the first time or already have them and want to improve your care routine, this guide covers everything from home care to maintenance and more!

Pricing Breakdown

Each extensions appointment will cost between $120 and $475, but the cost of hair will be your biggest expense. Hair will cost anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars, with most clients spending about $700. The cost varies based on length, color, and brand. Luckily, you only have to purchase the hair about once per year. I do my best to find the best value for my clients every step of the way.

Maintenance

Extensions will need a touch up every 6 to 10 weeks with either a move-up (where the structural beads are loosened, brought up closer to the scalp, then tightened again) or reinstall (everything comes out and is put back in).

  • Move-ups (if eligible): Every 6-8 weeks
  • Reinstalls: Every 6-10 weeks

First-time clients must have their first maintenance at 6 weeks to ensure proper care and placement. At that time, it will be determined whether or not the client is a good candidate for a move up.

Tenderness & Itchiness

Mild discomfort after a fresh install or move-up is normal. However, if you experience pain or intense itching, contact me immediately for an adjustment.

Home care

Sleeping: Always sleep with your hair in braids, a loose bun, or a ponytail. Using a silk bonnet or satin pillowcase is highly recommended to protect your extensions.

Brushing: Brush often and in sections, holding the top of the weft for security. A flexible bristle brush, like a Wet Brush or Unbrush, works best.

Blow drying: Blow dry your hair immediately after washing or getting wet—extensions can matt if left damp. If you can’t dry them right away, secure them in a loose bun or braid. Extensions hold moisture longer than natural hair, which can lead to mildew if not properly dried.

Styling: Use a dry conditioner, heat protectant spray, or hair oil before heat styling to maintain the health of your extensions. Avoid animal-based keratin products.

Watch out: Avoid sunscreens containing avobenzone and octocrylene to prevent color distortion. Avoid salt water and chlorine. If exposure is unavoidable, dampen your hair first, apply conditioner beforehand, and shampoo immediately after. Keep hair tied back to limit soaking.
